Infant Baptism or Thanksgivings
At St Peter’s we have a policy to baptise only infants who are residents of Bilton, Wyton or Ganstead.
Parents who are not regular attendees at St Peter’s are asked to attend one of the morning worship services, to experience Christian worship and to collect an explanatory booklet.
After reading what the implications of having their child baptised are, the parents need to make an informed decision, so they are invited to complete a tear-off strip in the booklet and return it to the vicar.
The parents and prospective Godparents (or sponsors for a thanksgiving) are invited to an information evening, where a video is shown and the differences between Baptism and Thanksgivings are explained further.
For a Baptism, parents will be asked to attend a Start Course as part of their preparation. (A six weeks Christian basics course)
Thanksgiving however needs no preparation as parents are not being asked to make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ.
Baptisms and Thanksgivings are usually held on a Sunday morning at 11.30am at a date mutually acceptable to the parents and the vicar.
